Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about porting your number to SecondSim via PAC code.

What is a PAC code and how do I get it? +

A Porting Authorisation Code (PAC) is a free 9-character code (format: ABC123456) that authorizes the transfer of your mobile number between UK networks. Simply text PAC to 65075 from the number you want to keep. Your current provider is legally required by Ofcom to text you back within 60 seconds. The code is valid for 30 days.

Do I need to buy a SecondSim plan before I can port my number? +

Yes. You must purchase a SecondSim plan and activate your eSIM before requesting a port. The transfer applies your old number directly onto your active SecondSim line, replacing the temporary number. We cannot initiate an MNP transfer through Ofcom without an active line.

How long does it take to port a number? +

Number porting takes one working day under Ofcom rules, provided your request is submitted before 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. Transfers do not run on weekends or UK Bank Holidays.

Will I lose signal during the transfer? +

No. You will not experience major signal downtime. Your old SIM card remains fully active up until the exact moment of the port. When your old SIM disconnects, restart your phone and your ported number will be live on your SecondSim profile.

Does porting cancel my old contract? +

Yes. Completing a number port triggers the immediate cancellation of your line with your previous network provider under Ofcom regulations. You do not need to call them.

Can I port a VoIP or landline number? +

No. PAC codes only apply to mobile-to-mobile number portability. If you wish to port a UK landline, virtual number, or VoIP number, contact our support team for a manual assessment.
